Computing the Fear & Greed index…
How the score is built
How to use this tool
This Fear & Greed index is a 0-100 composite computed live from data PEPS already collects — no third-party index. It blends three factors into a single gauge: 0-24 Extreme Fear, 25-44 Fear, 45-55 Neutral, 56-75 Greed, 76-100 Extreme Greed.
How it works
- News sentiment (35%): every article from the last 24h scores 100 if bullish, 50 if neutral, 0 if bearish, weighted by its importance, then averaged.
- Smart-money flows (40%): large whale transfers to/from exchanges; net accumulation (outflows) is greedy, net distribution (inflows) is fearful. Stablecoins are excluded.
- Market volatility (25%): the average market-move score of recent news — calm tape leans greedy, a turbulent one leans fearful.
- The "24h ago" reading uses the same recipe on the prior day, so the delta shows whether the market is turning more greedy or more fearful.
What to consider
- It is a sentiment gauge, not a trade signal — extreme readings often mark contrarian turning points rather than confirmations.
- Each factor is shown separately so you can see what is driving the score; one strong factor can offset two weak ones because of the weighting.
- When few large transfers or little news exist, the underlying factors are noisier and the index reverts toward neutral.
