Trade Journal — Complete guide

Complete guide for Trade Journal on PEPS Crypto. Learn how it works, which indicators it uses, and what to consider before trading.

LIVE

Trade Journal is a discretionary log for long/short trades — track setups, notes and ratings, then review win rate, profit factor, expectancy and equity.

It complements Average Price (inventory ledger) and Profit & Loss (holdings MTM). Logged-in entries live in MariaDB; guests use localStorage.

What is this tool?

A personal trade log with open/closed status and long/short sides.

Analytics: win rate, profit factor, expectancy, open mark-to-market, by-setup and by-symbol.

An equity curve built from closed trades in chronological order.

How to read the results

Total P&L includes closed realized plus open mark-to-market when live prices exist.

Win rate ignores breakeven flats; profit factor is gross wins ÷ gross losses.

By-setup ranking shows which playbooks actually pay.

Equity is cumulative closed P&L — not account balance.

Key signals and metrics

Long P&L = (exit − entry) × qty − fee; short flips the price delta.

Open trades mark to catalog prices when available.

Setup and tags are free-text for your own taxonomy.

Advanced usage and combinations

Tag every trade with a setup name before judging win rate.

Use Average Price for inventory cost basis; use this journal for discretionary R-multiples.

Cross-check open MTM with Profit & Loss on the same book.

How it works

  • Add a trade with symbol, side, entry and size.
  • Tag the setup and optional notes/rating.
  • When done, set status Closed with an exit price.
  • Review win rate, profit factor and equity.
  • Filter by open/closed and refine weak setups.

What to consider

  • Fees reduce P&L — leave them blank only if you truly have zero fees.
  • Guest mode is device-local until you log in.
  • Not financial or tax advice.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the same as Average Price?
No. APC is a buy/sell inventory ledger for cost basis. Trade Journal is a discretionary performance log with setups and ratings.
Where are guest entries stored?
In browser localStorage under peeps_trj_entries — clearing site data removes them.
Does open MTM place orders?
No — it only marks open trades to catalog prices for display.

Conclusion

Journal first, judge setups second — raw P&L without taxonomy is noisy.

Not financial advice.
